This was a part of a project that I’ve posted photos from recently, a cool assignment that we had to complete last year (when I was studying illustration) involving taking an old, second hand book and basically drawing all through it and making it our own. I did this in one of the front pages and I kinda liked it. It’s a photo not a scan, so apologies for the slightly-crappy quality! The book isn’t scannable unfortunately, shoulda’ picked something I could easily manipulate haha!

This is what it looks like in the book btw - 

(Sidenote: I’m a big follower of social justice issues and etc, and I wasn’t entirely sure if people would interprete this as cultural appropriation or not. I was more inspired by the braids that Janet Jackson wore in her hair during the Rhythm Nation era (they were black and not coloured though) than anything else. The girl I’ve drawn here is definitely supposed to be of a mix of African and Native American descent…if anybody feels uncomfortable with this picture, just let me know!)
